How to buy direct from Italian boutiques: start with your Google region (October 2026)
Italian boutiques often price below US retail, but most don't show up on US Google. Seven steps, from searching in Italian to checking the VAT comes off.
1. Switch Google to Italy
- Go to google.it
- Search in Italian: cappotto manuela (Manuela coat)
- Works for other pieces too: the model name + cappotto (coat)
2. Find the boutiques
Italian boutiques you never see on US Google start showing up. Open each one and check it actually lists the piece, in stock, with a real product page.
3. The price secret: 22% VAT
Italian prices include 22% VAT. When the boutique ships outside the EU, that VAT usually comes off.
- Check the VAT-free price shows up at checkout with a US address
- Remember US duties are charged separately: since Aug 29, 2025 there's no duty-free allowance under $800
4. Ask about a first-order discount
Many boutiques offer 10–15% off a first order for signing up. Some do, some don't, and it costs nothing to check.
5. Check they ship to the US
If they ship straight to the US, that's the easy path. If they only ship within Europe, you'd need a European forwarder, but then the order is delivered inside the EU, so the 22% VAT usually stays on. Do the math before you go that route.
6. Watch for scams
Fake luxury sites are everywhere. If a price looks impossible, look the site up on ScamAdviser before you pay, and pay with a credit card, not a bank transfer.
7. Go early for popular sizes
Sizes like IT38 sell out early in the season. Fall/winter pieces usually start arriving in late summer, so that's when to start looking.
