Coogi is selling out again
Thirty years after Biggie made it hip-hop's loudest sweater, Coogi searches jumped on Depop and the brand's new $425–$600 crewnecks are running out of sizes.

The sweater that never left
Coogi started in 1969 in Toorak, Melbourne, as Cuggi, and became Coogi in 1987. The look is the knit: raised, textured panels in a dozen colors at once.
In the 1990s The Notorious B.I.G. wore it, was photographed in it, and named it in several songs, including "Big Poppa" and "Hypnotize". He found it through a stylish regular at a Manhattan club, and in 1995 photographer Dana Lixenberg shot him in a Coogi on a Vibe shoot he showed up to already wearing it (Andscape, 2023). That made it a status sweater.
It's museum-grade, too: COOGI says the brand was inducted into the Smithsonian's Cooper Hewitt, National Design Museum collection for its knitting technique, and the Museum at FIT showed a Coogi sweater in its 2023 *Fresh, Fly, and Fabulous: Fifty Years of Hip Hop Style* exhibition as a nod to Biggie (Andscape).
Then the 2000s moved on and the brand went quiet, until a 2014 relaunch built around the original men's sweater.
Why it's moving now
1. Resale is where people find it. The +1.2k jump is search interest on Depop, not sales, but it's the resale crowd hunting originals.
2. Vintage holds its price. Asking prices we saw on 10/20 for Australian-made vintage Coogi ran $250–$600 (three eBay originals that day: $280, $411 and $529).
3. The brand keeps supply tight. New crewnecks are sold as "limited supply" at $425–$600, and on 10/20 most sizes were already gone.
The cheaper way in
COOGI's sneaker collab with PUMA, the Coogi-knit Clyde, came out on March 9, 2017, the 20th anniversary of Biggie's death, as a nod to him and to hip-hop's golden age. It still shows up on resale. If $600 is too much for a sweater, the brand also sells fleece crewnecks around $210–$250 on coogi.com.

What we're watching
Whether next week's Depop list still has Coogi on it, and whether coogi.com restocks the Vegas sizes. One week is a spike. Two weeks is a trend.
